The Location and Local Amenities

Families can enjoy surf lessons on the nearby popular Northam Burrows beach, while golfers may prefer a challenging game of golf at the nearby Royal North Devon Golf Club at Northam Burrows.

A few minutes drive from the property takes you to the access road that leads down to the National Trust car park in Northam Burrows, a county park that lies within an area of outstanding natural beauty. The Burrows form part of the newly designated United Nations Biosphere Reserve, and join the National Trust coastal path which extends as far as Cornwall.

This road takes you through the Royal Devon Golf Links, with unconcerned sheep wandering about doing what sheep do, before arriving at the beach, where all manner of water sports are possible, including surf lessons for beginners and the more experienced. It is a very unspoilt spot at present, and it does not have any of the eyesores that you encounter in many other resorts.

There are however good toilet facilities, and usually an ice cream van and an enterprising young lad with a very clean burger van– that is it! There are miles of wonderful sand where the kids can have a great time.

About ten minutes walk the other way you find Westward Ho! Here there is a pub, newsagent and a few cafes, and at present a very good, reliable bus service. The nearest town is Bideford, about three miles away, and a further five miles on lies Barnstaple, where the shopping is excellent. Both of these market towns have Pannier markets on certain days, with wonderful local grown produce and much more besides.
